CHAPTER TWO.....Gina Garan

In 1997 Gina Garan, a video and TV producer, was introduced to blythe by a friend who gave Gina a gift of a vintage Kenner blythe thinking that she looked like the doll. Gina began using the doll to take practice shots with her old camera so blythe became her model too! Gina started carrying at least one of her blythes wherever she went, taking photos of them, on her travels all around the world.

CHAPTER THREE.....Gina, Junko Wong & Parco Department Stores (Japan)

In December 1999, at the opening of an exhibition for the CWC International artists in Soho, New York, Gina showed her photos to Junko Wong. Junko took these photos to Parco and made a presentation for blythe as "virtual model" for Parco. The Christmas 2000 Parco campaign featured Blythe in a TV commercial and magazines. As predicted by Junko, Blythe became a hugh sensation in Japan. Summer 2000, This is Blythe photo book by Gina Garan was published by Chronicle Books. In the wake of the Parco promotions, the popularity of blythe soared. The vintgage Kenner blythe dolls that could previously have been purchased on Ebay for $30 - $40 increased in value by hundreds of dollars and by the end of 2001 the price for a vintage Kenner blythe doll had gone into the thousands of dollars. Blythe had finally, if not unexpectedly, found the success and acclaim that had always eluded her.
